Academics

The International Baccalaureate has as objective to offer more advantages than the other curriculums and trains curious, informed, educated, supportive, and motivated students to succeed.

The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program (DP) is a challenging and stimulating two-year curriculum (Grades 11 and 12) emphasizing critical thinking, multi-disciplinary learning and inter-cultural understanding. The IBDP curriculum is made up of the DP core and six subject groups. It is an academically challenging and rigorous program of education that aims to nurture independent, life-long learners who are prepared for success at university and beyond. The IBDP has gained recognition from the world’s leading universities.
The Origins of
IB Baccalaureate

The International Baccalaureate (IB) is an organization founded in 1968. It is a non-profit foundation based in Geneva, Switzerland. It was created to develop a globally recognized international pre-university curriculum.
Initially, most of the IB member schools were international schools. The IB has grown rapidly and developed beyond its original mission.

Programme
For students aged 16-19
The IB Diploma Programme, or IBDP, is for students aged 16-19 and is based on the philosophy that students should always question the subjects they learn and apply critical thinking skills to real-world situations. The IB Diploma offers a broad range of subjects for students to study so that students can personalise their learning.
The IBDP Curriculum is composed of six subject groups; students must normally study one from each group, three at higher level and three at standard level over a two-year period:

Studies in Language
and Literature
For a complete understanding and good use of Spanish and English

Language
Acquisition
Tools for a complete knowledge of a language as rich as English.

Individuals
& societies
A methodology for students to grow physically, intellectually, emotionally, and ethically.

Sciences
Training is based on promoting the exploration of the nature of knowledge.

Mathematics
A program for them to excel in traditional academic subjects and in new fields such as science or technology.

The Arts
Creativity is a basic concept in the IB methodology, encouraging its use and understanding.
Students take / study six subjects and must choose at least one subject from each of the first five areas.

Normally, three upper-level and three standard-level subjects are taken. This allows students to specialize in areas that interest them while ensuring that they continue to benefit from a broad-based education.
- A science-oriented student could, for example, take Physics, Biology, and Mathematics at a higher level, and English A, Literature, French B, and Business Studies at the standard level.
- In contrast, a linguist can take French B, German B, and English A literature at a higher level, then visual arts, environmental systems, and Societies and mathematical studies at the standard level.
In addition to the six subject groups, IB Diploma students study the IB core – three required components which broaden their experience. The three core components are:
- Theory of knowledge – students reflect on knowledge and question/challenge what we know
- The Extended Essay – an in-depth self-directed 4000-word research paper in an area of their choice
- Creativity, activity, service – students participate in various purposeful and personally challenging activities related to these three subjects, with significant outcomes

These core elements are often said to be at the heart of the diploma program and reflect the IB’s commitment to inquiry-based learning and the education of the whole person. As its mission statement makes clear, the IB is also committed to the broader goal of promoting international-mindedness and helping to create a better world through education.
How does de IB Diploma differ from other curriculums?
The IB Diploma curriculum offers an international focus and emphasis on self-directed, independent learning through research and applying problem-solving skills to real-world issues. The certification requires students to engage in a wide variety of activities and places equal weight on learning inside the classroom as well as outside the classroom.
The IB Diploma also offers students the opportunity to study a broad range of subjects. This is compared to say A-levels, which encourages students to become specialised in a few subjects which they study in-depth.

- Universities around the world hold the IB Diploma in high esteem – The best colleges and universities accept IB Students
- Emphasizes independent and self-directed learning. Focuses on social and emotional development – for example being a world citizen with universal values
- Encourages a global perspective – for example, students must master a foreign language, learn about other cultures and political systems among other things.
- It’s an international qualification so it's especially useful for students who plan to study or work abroad.
